LAPD’s New BMW i3 & Tesla Model S Electric Cars (Pictures)

As I shared earlier today, following a post over on Gas2, the city of Los Angeles took National Drive Electric Week as an opportunity to share that it just acquired 288 fully electric and plug-in hybrid electric cars — 160 and 128, respectively. But we didn’t have pics at the time.

Thanks to BMW i3 forum member joanbowen, I found several pics of the i3. A slight bit of internet searching brought up other i3 and Tesla Model S P85D pictures (thanks to Stephen Edelstein, in particular). Here are the pics:

The instant torque of these fun electric cars should help the LAPD to get a super quick start in any chases the police force needs to engage in, and the super quiet ride should help to sneak up on Joker wannabes. But no doubt about it, the P85D will be the real force to be reckoned with. I wouldn’t want to be running from that.

Congrats to Los Angeles for an excellent National Drive Electric Week. We’ve got some more pics and videos coming up from that great event. Stay tuned.

By the way, the full LADP press release on its electric vehicle mega-buy can be found here.

I don't like paywalls. You don't like paywalls. Who likes paywalls? Here at CleanTechnica, we implemented a limited paywall for a while, but it always felt wrong — and it was always tough to decide what we should put behind there. In theory, your most exclusive and best content goes behind a paywall. But then fewer people read it! We just don't like paywalls, and so we've decided to ditch ours. Unfortunately, the media business is still a tough, cut-throat business with tiny margins. It's a never-ending Olympic challenge to stay above water or even perhaps — gasp — grow. So ...
