Domino is a cost-free concierge service that helps people find more energy-efficient products like solar panels, electric cars, energy storage systems, and cooling and heating systems. Concierges communicate with interested people, on the phone or sometimes via live chat sessions… and this service is indeed free. They help find green energy solutions for people to fit their needs. For example, they can help explain rebates and incentives for renewable energy, and also compare contractor quotes, among other things. Actually installing LEDS for the customers is yet another example.
So, if you were interested in a home solar power system, a live chat session could be a good place to start to get your questions answered. In case you were curious, Domino makes money by getting referral fees from vendors.
The startup is working with the 100% campaign, which is based on the premise that 100% renewable energy is possible for everyone in America. “100% wants to kick in the domino effect. By giving people the tools to get what they need and want. Everyone wants clean air, clean water. Everyone wants to save money. No one wants blackouts. We are excited to work with the campaign to provide the tools to get people these results,” said Domino CEO Stephen Torres.
Actors Mark Ruffalo and Leonardo DiCaprio support the 100% campaign. “100% is for 100%. Our first priority is to make clean energy more accessible and affordable for all people – increasing consumer demand and accelerating the growth of clean, efficient renewable energy,” said Mark Ruffalo, who is also a cofounder of the campaign.
“100% clean energy is possible using today’s technologies and we have the science to prove it. But there are very real economic, regulatory and political barriers to adoption. That’s what this campaign is all about – addressing those barriers and making it easier and cheaper to move to clean energy for 100% of the people,” said Leonardo DiCaprio.
A research study conducted at Stanford conducted by Mark Jacobson found that the US could be powered entirely by clean energy. “A conversion of this scale would also create jobs, stabilize fuel prices, reduce pollution-related health problems and eliminate emissions from the United States. There is very little downside to a conversion, at least based on this science.”
Of course, the trick is to help people change their consumer behavior, and behavior change generally is difficult. Habits, beliefs and group-think are just part of why we behave in certain ways. Having a free energy-efficiency concierge service might help doubters or the unaware begin to move in the direction of clean energy conservation. Are most people aware that solar power has never been more affordable?
It might also be somewhat of a constrained effort, because it depends on employing a number of concierges, and how many can be paid while maintaining a functional business?
Also, how many people can the concierges chat with on a monthly basis, and do the chats lead to clean energy adoption?
These are some of the questions that will be answered as data come in during operations.
On the surface, it sounds like a good idea.
