Tesla Model 3 To Have 250 Miles Of Range?

Given that the Tesla Model 3 is still several years off (at least) and that there is next to nothing out there that’s truly solid with regard to the car, you’d think that there would be less speculation on the matter… And yet, here we are.
On that note, there have been some rumblings in the Tesla-loving corners of the internet that the Model 3’s oft-mentioned “200 miles of range” is in reference to “real world miles,” not in reference to the nameplate range. Does that mean that the Model 3 will actually have a range of 250 miles per full charge?

It just might. Musk reportedly said that the Tesla Model III will have a 250 mile range per charge, according to NOLA.com. Now without video, or an actual quotation, it’s hard to confirm that Musk did indeed say this, and he wasn’t misquoted or misheard. However, it also wouldn’t be totally out of line with Musk’s previous commentary on the Model III’s range, including the quip about “real world” driving.
Keep in mind that the base Tesla Model S 70D is now rated at 240 miles per charge, up from just 200. More range is always welcome, but it could also be that Tesla owners are finding that 200 miles isn’t quite enough to make it from one Supercharger station to the next. That extra 50 miles could be the difference between making it to the next Supercharger station, and waiting for a lift from a tow truck.
Interesting. 200 miles of “real-world” range is probably enough for nearly any driver/use — it’s hard to think of anyone who couldn’t make due very comfortably with that much range. With the official Model 3 unveiling not set to happen until next year, though, we’ll have to wait and to see the details.
