Unfortunately, many people still think that Masdar* = Masdar City. In fact, Masdar has 4 big arms, just one of which is Masdar City. One of the others is Masdar Institute. The cleantech and sustainability research institute includes many top researchers and professors, including several who formerly worked for MIT.

Masdar Institute is researching various aspects of solar energy. Last year, I had the opportunity to talk a bit with Dr. Steve Griffiths, Masdar’s director of solar research, during Abu Dhabi Ascent about some of the solar research going on there. During this year’s Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, I had more time to sit down and talk with Steve and hear about some of the institute’s new research initiatives and partnerships. Check it out here:

*Full Disclosure: Masdar covered my trip to Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in 2014 and 2015, and I do some contract work for the clean energy corporation.
