Electric Car Leader Accepts California’s Highest Honor

December 17th, 2013 by

paul scottPaul Scott is one of the standout leaders in the EV revolution. He is the co-founder of the highly regarded organization Plug In America, and he has done a tremendous job hitting the ground to an even greater degree and selling Nissan Leafs at the Nissan of Downtown Los Angeles dealership.

Last week, Paul accepted a 2013 Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award (GEELA) from the state of California on behalf of the LA Nissan dealership. The dealership was one of 13 winners for this prestigious environmental award.

I think the director of “Who Killed the Electric Car?” and “Revenge of the Electric Car” summarizes the general consensus on Paul quite well:

“Paul is one of the most dedicated activists and educators I have ever met for both electric cars and solar,” said Chris Paine, said. “He knows the issues, he’s passionate and takes personal risks, he puts his money where his mouth is, he’s tireless even when exhausted, and he walks the walk. He truly is one of California’s finest assets and I’ve met a lot of people in my 20 years here. He not only believes, he’s making it happen.”

The press release adds more noteworthy comments on Scott and the associations he is a critical part of: “A founding board member of Plug In America, the nonprofit organization widely credited as critically instrumental in bringing EVs back into auto showrooms, Scott helped bring about installation at Nissan of Downtown L.A. of one of the area’s first EV quick chargers, which LEAF and other EV drivers may use for free around the clock. He helped organize several EV ride-and-drives at large local corporations, and trains the dealership’s staff—which boasts one of the nation’s highest LEAF ownership rates—about the environmental, economic and national security benefits of EVs outlined in the documentary about his ill-fated lunch with President Barack Obama.”

Nissan of Downtown LA is apparently planning to install a large solar carport for charging its EVs. No doubt, Scott was a critical part of that move. As he says, the dealership can now sell all of its EVs on a “full tank of sunshine.”

You can find more details about the honor and more comments from Paul in the Plug In America press release.

Hear Paul and another noted EV advocate, Nicolas Zart, talk about EVs and autonomous cars in this recent interview at National Plug In Day 2013 in Los Angeles:
