Nissan has announced its support for National Plug in Day, which will take place on October 16 (tomorrow), and the theatrical release of Chris Paine’s new film Revenge of the Electric Car, to be shown in NYC and LA on October 21. Other showings will follow.

National Plug in Day

This awareness event is sponsored by Plug In America, the Sierra Club, and the Electric Auto Association. Depending upon the location, the event will include notable speakers, plug-in parades, tailpipe-free tailgate parties, and other grassroots activities. Electric vehicles by many manufacturers will be available for test-drives or viewing. Those interested in electric vehicles may have a chance to talk to owners and see chargers and other related equipment.

A previous parade held in Jan 2009 at Santa Monica, CA included owners of 78 electric vehicles. Organizers are hoping for as many as 400 cars to take part, starting at 10 am from the Santa Monica City Hall. There are 25 cities across the US participating in the event and you can go to the Plug in America website to discover what is happening locally. A podcast is available here.

Revenge of the Electric Car is the new movie by Chris Paine, the director of the 2006 movie Who Killed the Electric Car?. Showings will begin in NYC and LA on October 21 and in the weeks that follow throughout the US. Revenge follows 4 men working to be the first to bring electric vehicles to market.

The Electric Auto Association (EAA) was formed in 1967 by Walter Laski in San Jose, California. The EAA is a non-profit educational organization that promotes the advancement and widespread adoption of Electric Vehicles.

Plug In America was founded as a non-profit on January 2, 2008, to raise public awareness of, and to advocate for, plug-in transportation. Plug in America board members now regularly appear at national and regional events as speakers and participants. The group presently has a supporter base of about 30,000 people and one of the “freshest” YouTube channels.

Previous work of Plug in America has included supporters emailing over 50,000 letters to US congressional members urging the tax credit for EV purchases be included in the stimulus bill, with stunning success. Also, Plug In America has worked tirelessly to extend HOV lane status for all-electric vehicles until 2015. Plug In America may now represent the loudest and clearest EV advocacy voice in the US.

The Sierra Club
was founded in 1892 by John Muir and now boasts over 1.4 million members. It is America’s largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization.
