Plug-In Hybrids Pull Up Europe’s Plug-In Market — October EV Sales Report

The European passenger plug-in vehicle (PEV) market recorded some 48,000 registrations in October (+46%), and this time it was the plug-in hybrids (+75% growth year over year, or YoY) that pulled the PEV market up. Fully electric vehicles (BEVs) remained at cruising speed (+26%), leading to a nearly even (51% BEVs / 49% PHEVs, vs. 65% / 35% YTD) breakdown between both technologies in October.

Teslas = 77.7% of US Electric Vehicle Sales

The US electric vehicle market … is not the most interesting. Unfortunately, we have only one mass-market electric vehicle on the market, and there are very few models available across the nation. Actually, aside from Tesla’s offerings, I think only two fully electric models available at dealers practically anywhere are the Chevy Bolt and Nissan LEAF.

The European passenger plug-in vehicle market scored some 35,000 registrations in August (+15%), with fully electric vehicles (BEVs) continuing to grow at a fast pace (69%) while plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) are still suffering from the WLTP blues, down -29% year over year (YoY). They’ve failed to post one single growth month since last September, when the new WLTP emission rules started.
