We expected a remarkable result when we sent the Lucid Air for independent range testing at FEV North America, a leading provider of engineering services in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
Over the years, as we’ve noted several times, certain electric vehicles from traditional automakers have been hyped as “Tesla killers” (mostly by members of the media and Wall Street, not the automakers). Those EVs have not turned out to be Tesla killers. On the contrary, the Tesla Model 3 is the top selling EV in the world and several of these “killers” have very limited sales.
On Tuesday, we looked at the unveiling of the wildly impressive Lucid Motors Air at the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles. The Air’s performance was already noteworthy on paper, but my test ride was beyond expectations. I haven’t been this happy about a new electric vehicle, EV since the unveiling of the Tesla Model S P90D, and before that, the Roadster and AC Propulsion’s eBox.

Until now, it’s been something of a mystery where Lucid Motors would be manufacturing it’s rather appealing looking 400-mile Atvus electric vehicle, and if the company would actually be able to meet its goal to begin sales in 2018. Considering the people involved with the company, though, it seemed likely that there must be serious plans of some kind.
