Tesla Model S deliveries started to initial customers on Friday. Auto journalists also got their first deliveries on Friday, and apparently they are loving it.

Michael Graham Richard of TreeHugger writes: “So far there seems to be an almost universal consensus that the Model S is a very impressive car, not just when compared against other electric cars, but against all cars.” It certainly seems that way.

Going on: “It seems to please when it comes to look, acceleration, ride quality, attention to details in the cabin, spaciousness, how it sticks to the road because of the very low center of gravity (thanks to the batteries), etc. It’s basically a standing ovation from the press so far, which is rare.”

See the videos below and a roundup of posts from Michael for more on all of that.

Right at 2:03, in the first video, they go sailing by Solyndra.

      They sure do, don’t they?

Few auto journalists have tested the vehicle and one thing you can say for sure : it’s HEAVY. Really has a weight problem. Michelle Obama will undoubtedly be on Tesla’s case. Musk has succeeded temporarily in diverting attention from the most important component in the car : those
very expensive batteries (they account for HALF the car’s price), and how they don’t recharge nearly as fast as Musk has claimed they would and which will lose 20% of their driving range within 6 years. And don’t forget the second mortgage that owners will need to replace those batteries after 9 years or so, assuming you don’t allow the batteries to completely discharge before then (transforming the batteries into a 1600 pound paperweight). The problem with advanced technology is that sometimes it isn’t all that advanced. Isn’t it strange that these journalists never mentioned any of this stuff? Why is that?

Hopefully in 9 years batteries are way cheaper and are using nanotechnology more effectively. Obviously batteries aren’t moving as fast as we would all like but I have high hopes for Envia Systems
http://enviasystems.com/  as their technology seems to be close to prime-time.  I think that old EV batteries could probably be re-purposed as storage for a PV system.

Ah, you’re here too.  I’m now inspired to do a little research…

That was easy. Pretty good circumstantial evidence you’re either a corporate shill, or someone who has enough time on their hands to comment on the same side of this topic for 8 years.

      haters gonna hate..

don’t worry, i’m sure we’ll use horses instead of automobiles forever.

Keep cashing those EXXON checks. If your going to be a corporate rebublican spokesman at least be honest about it. Elon is changing the world, what are you doing to change it? Are there issues? Yes. Will batteries improve? Yes. Will they get cheaper? Yes. Will you wake up and see it? Regretably probably not. There are two reasons you will not. You are either paid not to see it, or you are scared of change and are willfully ignorant.

Kent is a well know troll when it comes to Tesla articles.  You’ll see his posts under his various aliases on almost every Tesla article.  There is an entire thread over on the Tesla forums about him and his exploits over the years as well.  He’s in-famous as they say.

some people just love to search out controversy, don’t they?

… or they get paid for it.
