Luna Road Unveils Solar-Powered LED “Cat Eyes”
We all know that conventional retro-reflective road markers, or “cat eyes”, don’t always work when you need to see into the distance. Luna Road’s new solar-powered LED cat eyes, however, illuminate the road ahead for miles. The company’s lights are built in poly-crystalline/ single crystalline solid, and come in economical, intermediate, and advanced models.

After charging for 8 hours during the day, Luna Road’s lights glow for a full 12 hours. The lights are available in red, blue, green, amber, and white for added visibility. According to the company, LED road studs “provide drivers with more visual information [and] allow them to average more effectively while driving in addition to increasing the decision-making time for drivers on the roads at night.”
Solar-Powered LED cat eyes aren’t new— the studs are currently used in over 120 locations in the UK—but it’s nice to see another company tossing its hat into the ring.

“Ember” is a burning coal or bit of wood. “Amber” is a color.
These solar powered markers should be on all of the roads. There have been many times when I’ve been in a rain storm were I couldn’t see the road. These LED Lights could save many lives.
Oh jebus, those would be great where I live. It rains often, so night driving is often not the greatest in visibility. It would be nice to see which way the road curves beyond my headlights.
These are a fantastic safety enhancement. I turned off my headlights momentarily when I first came across them on te A12 to figure out what was happening. Any problems with the suppose triggering of epileptic fits as the LEDs pass through the edge of one’s field of vision and the 100Hz flash rate becomes noticeable could be reduced by incresing the flash rate to 250Hz as some manufacturers have done. Another idea which I read about recently is making a normally white LED change over to illuminate a blue one in the same housing when the temperature drops close to freezing and below. Are you guys developing such a model? It could be deployed on stretches where black ice is known to be a problem and on bridges which are first to feeeze.

We have already started introducing the color coding scheme to alert drivers as to highly dangerous areas.
Many drivers from the onset may not fully understand the color coding schemes; therefore we have begun implementing a basic color coding scheme of:
(Red = High Danger Areas on the road - mainly used on chevron lines and accident prone areas)
(Amber = Exercise General Caution on the road - mainly used on the side edge lines of the road)
(Green = Ability to exit highway / roadway)
(White = Mainly used on central lines to denote filter lanes)
We then work closely with the relative authorities and the media, to educate the general public about the color coding scheme mentioned above.

With regards to the LED Color changing during temperature dropping, we want to ensure that education around the initial color coding scheme mentioned above is widely accepted first, then we will progress towards alternating the different colors so most road users would have a better understanding of the message that is being communicated to them.

There used to be some cats eyes like this on the way to Devon.
I would like to know whey they have taken them out…
This was about 10 years ago when I didnt have kids and I used to go on surfing trips to Cornwall in convoy… we used to turn the lights on on our cars and drive by the cats eyes. (I wouldn’t do it now)
Maybe that’s why they took them out.
I did see a UV light on tomorrows world years ago that made white things show way past normal sets of head lights.
Anyway get product I hope it gets installed everywhere…

Solar Powered LED Cats Eyes
Solar Powered LED Cats Eyes are widely employed. They are very easy to install. There has been a strong need for such a lamp in the government construction project due to traffic safety requirement. The lamp is used in guiding system of the road and big-scaled amusement park. Take road guiding system for instance, the distance between two lamps is 5-10 meters. Hence a medium-sized city with population of some 300,000 would need 100,000 lamps or so. So you can see how lucrative the business will be if you obtain such a government project.
(1) Characteristics of the Product:
aa. The housing of the lamp is made of special integrated compound plastic materials characterized by resisting pressure, crash, fog, salt and grind, etc. It has passed the nation’s CNS test evidencing its ability to resist running over of all sorts of vehicles and vehement changes in weather.
bb. The lighting system is composed of 6 pieces of ultra-high lightness LED light bulb, a solar panel and power saving system.
cc. Weight: 750g±50g
dd. The housing of the lamp is designed to carry water-wave pattern with slip-proof mechanism. It has passed the nation’s CNS surface slip-proof test.
ee. In the twilight time, when it gets dark, the lighting system including an automatic sensing device will automatically turn on the light. On the contrary, in daybreak, when it turns light, the lighting system will be shut down automatically.
ff. When it is sunshiny, the solar panel will be charged. It takes only several hours to get the solar panel fully charged. After being fully charged it can be used for 10 consecutive cloudy days.
gg. Visibility in the evening is as high as 150 meters, which, as a result, is in a position to enhance the traffic safety greatly, especially at the curves.
hh. It’s water-resistant and as a result can be put in the water serving as garden lighting.
ii. It has two patterns of lighting, flashing and permanent lighting. It also has a wide variety of colors at customers’ option, including red, yellow, blue, green and white, etc.
(2) Performance:
The product has been widely employed in the roads of a lot of Taiwan cities, several major amusement parks and city parks.
(3) R & D
The company has laid emphasis on R&D since its inception five years ago and has made significant achievement. The quality and function of the products have been improved continuously over the course of the past five years. The products they have now are their fifth generation ones. The fact that the company has outbid all its rivals at whatever government tender it had bid for speaks a great deal for the company’s competitiveness. The company’s products have been paved on many of Taiwan’s roads for more than three years and no adverse criticism has been reported. A report with statistics shows that the traffic accident occurring on roads paved with the company’s lamps has been greatly reduced as compared with those without pavement of the company’s lamp.
