Tesla Model 3 vs Tesla Model S — How Do The Two Compare?
Having owned a Tesla Model S, and one of the lucky few to have spent time driving the Tesla Model 3, I have a unique perspective on how the two stack up in real life.

Lots of reviews discuss Model 3 — its performance and driving attributes, its interior and exterior design, the basic functionality achieved through the landscape display and a myriad of other features. In fact, here at EVANNEX, we’ve done one of those with a very early vehicle.
With Model 3 deliveries becoming a bit more common, media outlets are finally getting their hands on Tesla’s most-anticipated car. Back in July, Motor Trend called it “the most important car of the century” in Model 3’s one-and-only published review. Since then, Tesla hasn’t been releasing test cars to the press. Automotive journalists (like reservation holders) have been anxiously awaiting an opportunity to step on the gas… uh, I mean accelerator.
The market/product analysts at Strategy Analytics have given the Tesla Model 3 a fairly low appraisal with regard to the “user experience” — with the notation being that there’s a drop in quality as compared to the Tesla Model S or Tesla Model X. Well, no kidding.
Our first thorough review of the Tesla Model 3, testing the car through the redwoods of Northern California.
We’ve seen a handful of Tesla Model 3 review videos floating around — including an excellent hour-long, deep dive into the car’s features by our friends at Model 3 Owners Club. That said, we just got a chance to conduct an in-depth evaluation of Model 3 for ourselves. It’s a fascinating car, and in our view, will come to dominate the mid-sized sedan segment over the next few years.
Following up on Steve and Kyle’s great coverage of Tesla Model 3 exterior details and Tesla Model 3 interior + infotainment details, here’s my piece covering the third segment of the Model 3 Owners Club’s deep dive into a Model 3 they came across.
Trevor from the Tesla Model 3 Owners Club reached out to us for a sneak peak at a video they put together that dives deep into just about every nook and cranny of a brand new, first-run Pearl White Tesla Model 3 Long Range.
To do the video justice, we broke the video out into 3 segments that cover roughly 20 minutes each. Following up on Steve’s article, I will be diving into the interior and touchscreen details, and then Zach will dive into control stalks, the keycard & app, windshield wipers, driving experience, and a bit more.
Trevor Page of the Model 3 Owners Club contacted us here at CleanTechnica a few days ago to say he and YouTube co-host Kenneth Bokor had secured the use of a Tesla Model 3 for two days. They were free to drive the car, probe its intricate bits inside and out, photograph it, take videos, and measure things. They sent over a 1 hour and 10 minute video of the details. The only restriction put on us was that we could not share the video or embed it into a story until after Tesla announced that regular production of the Model 3 had officially begun. Naturally, we agreed to Trevor’s terms and conditions.
It’s here. It’s official. The Tesla Model 3 has arrived. In style. Elon Musk took the stage last week to introduce the world to the next wave of automotive disruption. This car is going to make waves. Make no mistake, Tesla has delivered something that will shake the auto industry to its core. ArsTechnica asked Musk about the reservation count and reports: “The CEO then went on to say the net reservation number was currently ‘over half a million.'”
