Tesla just took to its official blog to announce that it would not be closing as many stores as it had initially planned and would be raising prices 3% on select configurations of the Model 3, S, and X, effective March 18th.
The most popular CleanTechnica stories last week had a bit of a surprise — two solar panel stories were in the top three. The other story on the podium was a breakdown of Tesla Model 3 specs versus the specs of 21 competing models.
The $35,000 Tesla Model 3 is here. Finally! The car may have been delayed, but it’s as groundbreaking as it would have been a year or two ago, and it’s well ahead of any comparable vehicles from other automakers. I’ll get to detailed comparisons in another article, but the Model 3 is basically quicker, safer, has higher tech, and is cooler than anything even $10,000–20,000 near it in price.
Thursday, February 28, 2019, after markets closed: After creating a lot of anticipation with some cryptic tweets, Tesla announced the base Model 3 and a new, more reasonable, pricing structure. The big question for all of us was, how did Tesla get production costs down enough to offer the $35,000 base model? Short answer: it didn’t. Let us look at the new prices first.
