Wind Energy Research Facility Launched To Boost Wind Farm Output

A new research facility could help solve one of the biggest limiting factors to wind energy – the slowing effect multiple turbines have upon wind strength within large farms.

The Scaled Wind Farm Technology (SWiFT) facility recently launched at Texas Tech University to study how turbine spacing within a wind farm affects turbulence, aerodynamic losses, equipment damage, and overall generation efficiency.

Stretchable Salt Could Unlock Secrets of Smog

It’s “not supposed to do that,” but it is: salt has revealed a previously undiscovered talent for stretching.  The startling revelation was made by researchers from Sandia National Laboratories and the University of Pittsburgh, using a powerful Interfacial Force Microscope.  The discovery of stretchable properties in salt could lead to … [continued]
