The online range calculator for the Opel Ampera-e (the rebranded Chevy Bolt EV) is now active, bringing with it a number of important questions. For example, is the range of the Opel Ampera-e truly as affected by cold weather as it seems to be?
Norway recently took delivery of its first Opel Ampera-e EVs, with 10 units making it to Jessheim (a city a bit north of Oslo).
Following earlier news that France’s DGCCRF has apparently found that Renault has been involved in diesel vehicle emissions testing manipulation for around 25 years now, the French consumer watchdog organization has revealed that a similar investigation into Opel has come up empty.
In other words, no evidence was found that Opel has been involved in the manipulation of diesel vehicle emissions testing.
As rumored, France’s PSA Group has now agreed to acquire GM’s Opel division, in a deal that puts the value of the business at €2.2 billion ($2.3 billion).
The Opel Ampera-e, the European rebranding of the Chevy Bolt EV, has now entered production and been granted its official range rating from the NEDC (the extremely “optimistic” European testing cycle).
GM is reportedly now in talks with the French auto manufacturer PSA Group about a possible sale of its Germany-based Opel division. If these talks do lead to a sale, that wouldn’t be too surprising, as Opel has reportedly been a money loser for GM for quite some time now.
Pricing for the Opel Ampera-e in the Norwegian market will be more aggressive than generally presumed, with the starting price working out to around ~$33,650 — making the model very competitive as regards price-to-range ratio.
In a very revealing comment, the manager of electrification at Opel (GM), Ralph Hannappel, was quoted as saying that the expectation was for electric cars to account for 10% to 15% of new car sales in the European market in 2030.
