Porsche and Audi have agreed to work together to create electric car chassis they can share in the future, saving each company about a third on development costs they would have to spend otherwise.
The most recent generation of Porsche diesel engines may be the last one, going by comments recently made by company CEO Oliver Blume in an interview with Reuters.
In other words, the company may be backing away from further development of diesel vehicles … or maybe the comments are simply meant as a PR stunt. Who knows as of yet?
The world’s largest auto manufacturers and parts suppliers are banding together to bring self-driving cars to market as quickly as possible. The scope and complexity of the undertaking means it is more economical to combine forces rather that continue to work toward the goal separately. Bosch and Daimler have recently agreed to work together, and the heads of Porsche and Audi have announced their companies will work more closely together.
The CEO of Porsche, Oliver Blume, stated in a recent interview with the German paper Automobilwoche that the luxury auto manufacturer was aiming for around 20,000 Mission E electric car sales a year following launch.
