A new consortium of battery tech firms that’s been named Imperium3 New York will be investing $130 million over the next 5 years to commercialize “an innovative technology for making more efficient and less expensive lithium ion batteries,” according to a press release from the governor’s office.
633 advanced energy storage projects encompassing 865 separate systems are currently in operation or under development worldwide, according to Navigant Research’s “Energy Storage Tracker 3Q13.” The industry added 38 new projects during the first half of 2013.
A new $23-million dollar energy storage research and development center could reorient the future of this growing industry to New York State.
