The prominent self-driving vehicle technology firm Mobileye has now finished the installation of collision avoidance technology in around 4,500 “rideshare” service vehicles in New York City, according to a new press release on the matter.
A 40-strong fleet of autonomous BMW test vehicles will be “on the roads” by the second half of the year, according to a new joint announcement from BMW Group, Intel, and Mobileye. This fleet of self-driving BMW 7 Series cars will be tested in the US and Europe.
When we covered news of an interesting test ride in the Lucid Motors Air prototype a few weeks ago, we noted that the experience included a short demonstration of the vehicle’s self-driving capabilities. Given the way things are headed in the auto industry, the company understandably seems to be aware that self-driving features will be an expected component in luxury offerings within only a few years.
The tech firm HERE and Mobileye, the self-driving tech firm perhaps best known for its previous work with Tesla, have announced that they are partnering to link “their respective autonomous driving technologies into an enhanced industry-leading offering for automakers.”
Following the parting of ways between the EyeQ3 chip maker MobilEye and Tesla Motors, the Israeli firm has apparently decided to follow a similar course with its self-driving technology development as the Tesla has taken. Insider sources confirmed that Elon Musk was recently out in Israel at the headquarters of Active Safety and Autonomous Driving tech company Mobileye. Mobileye has been a key supplier of Tesla since the early days and continues to be the core of Tesla’s autopilot hardware suite.
