Kelley Blue Book says used EV prices fall into two groups. Cars with more than 200 miles of range do quite well but cars with under 200 miles of range suffer. Overall, the Tesla Model 3 is expected to hold its value better than any other electric car.
Less than 3 weeks ago, Michael Barnard conducted an analysis for CleanTechnica examining the resale value of the Tesla Model 3 compared to competitors. The conclusion was that the Model 3 was dramatically better at holding its value than other cars in its class.
Much of this year was marked by a massive smear campaign against Elon Musk and his electric car company Tesla. FUD [fear, uncertainty, and doubt] was at an all-time high. Ignore it. If you cut through the clutter, and instead, according to Wired, “If you focus on Tesla the company, then 2018 has been very good indeed.”
As Tesla’s Model 3 continues to gain market share, legacy automakers face some daunting decisions. Bloomberg warns, “The future of the auto industry is going to look like the history of the cell phone … some of today’s dominant car companies will share the fate of a few former titans of the smartphone. Remember BlackBerry, Nokia, and Palm?”
At the Chicago auto show this week, Kelley Blue Book named the 2018 Nissan LEAF the lowest cost car to own over a 5 year period. Congratulations, Nissan.
