Offshore wind turbine manufacturer and developer MHI Vestas announced on Wednesday that its flagship V164 9.5 megawatt (MW) offshore wind turbine, the world’s most powerful wind turbine, has been awarded an S class type certificate, paving the way for installations to begin in late 2019.
MHI Vestas announced this week that it will provide its 9.5 megawatt (MW) wind turbines to the 224 MW Northwester 2 offshore wind farm set to be developed in Belgian waters, making it the first time the record-setting 9.5 MW wind turbine will be installed and operational anywhere in the world.
GE Renewable Energy and the UK’s Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult announced have signed a five-year research and development agreement which will see GE’s mammoth 12 megawatt (MW) Haliade-X wind turbine head to UK shores for the first time for extensive testing.
GE Renewable Energy has unveiled the world’s largest offshore wind turbine, the 12 megawatt Haliade-X which measures in at 260 meters in height and boasting a 220-meter rotor, and is capable of generating enough clean electricity for 16,000 households per turbine.
