Ed Darmanin rang me a week ago, all excited. He was home after his epic electric motorcycle journey around Australia. The Big Lap. You can read the first two parts here and here. The most exciting thing to me was the effect the ride had caused. According to the Macquarie … [continued]
Sick of the cartoons and comments insisting that all electric cars are powered by electricity generated by fossil fuels, Andrew Mangano set out to show it is possible to travel around Australia using mainly solar energy. You probably know the cartoons I am referring to — showing an EV linked … [continued]
By Ed Darmanin as told to David Waterworth for CleanTechnica Here we go, in Ed’s words with comments from me in square brackets. When I rode out of Sydney on 24 June, the plan was simple enough: 18,000 kilometres, anti-clockwise, one electric motorcycle, no support vehicle. What I didn’t plan … [continued]
Startups like Evotrex, Pebble, and Lightship are heavily pushing “active-assist” trailers. These are campers with their own built-in battery packs and electric motors designed to eliminate EV towing range anxiety. They basically push themselves down the highway to take the load off your tow vehicle, letting you go longer between … [continued]
A couple of years ago, I wrote an article titled “We May Have Been Wrong To Mock GM’s Big Battery Approach To Electric Trucks.” Back then, it was incredibly easy to point and laugh at vehicles like the Hummer EV for carrying around absurdly massive battery packs just to go … [continued]

Ed Darmanin, a retired electrical engineer from Sydney, is planning to circumnavigate mainland Australia — the world’s largest island continent — on an electric motorcycle. Why? Because no one has ever done it before — and because, as two … [continued]
It’s hard to miss the Powerhouse Visitor Center when you roll into Kingman. This massive building went up in 1907 to supply electricity to the town and local mines, but today it’s a completely different kind of hub. It serves as the main event in Kingman’s Route 66 scene, and … [continued]
My friend Arthur is a great proponent of electric vehicles, running EV shows in Rockhampton, having a regional centre in Queensland, writing for a local newspaper, and speaking on the local radio. He has been sharing his experiences with Tesla Full Self Driving (Supervised) both on country roads, on highways, … [continued]
In my last article, I shared the story of our journey just to get started on Route 66 in California. As I mentioned in that article, we ran into plenty of problems, but none of them were caused by pulling a travel trailer with an electric truck. Now, let’s get … [continued]
