We all know there’s a lot of misinformation about electric vehicles out there, but this is ridiculous. A recent survey found that 12% of UK motorists believe that electric cars cannot be driven in the rain!
We all want EVs to take over, right? I wrote a book about fighting the misconceptions and misunderstandings about EVs, and how you can win over the masses to boost EV adoption.
Electric vehicles (EV) and gas cars are not very efficient in cold weather. But while we’ve grown to blindly accept the limitations of traditional cars, EVs are still misrepresented, especially when it comes to cold weather. It’s time we nip that myth.
There’s nothing like experience. You can read and write about something all day, but until you experience it, it’s just a concept, and you don’t really understand it.
So, with that in mind, it is often interesting and useful to collect feedback from actual EV drivers about what they appreciate about their cars. It’s also often interesting and useful to find out the top misconceptions they discover other people have about electric cars.
A surprising look at online cruising regarding electric vehicles caught my eye. It’s a colorful map revealing the electric car interests of people in different states. The map shows the searches people in different states most frequently conduct for specific electric car models.
Yesterday, two women engaged me in conversation asking questions about driving an all-electric car (since I drive a Nissan LEAF). They were mystified and then happily surprised when I alleviated a few misconceptions about electric vehicles. Most of the time when I’m in a discussion about EVs, it’s because I’m charging and people walk up curious about them. In general, people seem to become much more interested once the facts on driving EVs become clear.
In Amsterdam earlier this year for EVBox’s first annual rEVolution conference, one of the presenters was TED Talker, Latin American EV super advocate, and CleanTechnica reader Monica Araya. She gave a wonderful presentation on breaking down electric vehicle myths in Costa Rica, more broadly across Latin America, and even more broadly across the world. The presentation is definitely worth a watch, so have at it!
New ideas always make us nervous at first. Airplanes and automobiles were once considered dangerous but now are part of everyday life. Electric cars are a relatively new idea. Some early adopters can’t wait to own one, but the majority of people are seemingly skeptical.
