Goodbye, Clean Water Act. Hello, Zombie Fish.
Zombie fish — it’s just a prelude of what’s to come for our waters, once protected, but not more.

It seems that the EPA under Donald Trump wants to dump raw sewage into our rivers. The organization is now allowing cities to do just that. In an article by the New York Times, the Trump administration has decided to reverse almost 95 environmental rules in a massive retreat on environmental protection, because “it’s too costly for industry or taxpayers.”
The EPA proposes to roll back the rules regarding clean water protection, removing many rivers and streams from federal protection. The change could have significant effects on the health of many Americans.
Trump signed two executive orders last week that will make it easier for the federal government to override state concerns about oil and gas pipelines. Government overreach is perfectly OK with conservatives when it serves their purposes.
Insanity rules in Trumperica, where some EPA boffins plan to roll back clean water rules while others question whether soot from coal-fired generating plants really is bad for human health. Where do you find such lunatics? We have a pretty good idea.
As part of the measures following from US President Donald Trump’s executive order issued back in March calling for the easing of “regulatory burdens” on the energy industry, the US Environmental Protection Agency will be reviewing the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act, amongst others, it was announced last Wednesday.
Clearly, the political focus of the year is a certain mind-boggling presidential candidate who hardly touches policy matters — and when he does, tends to push absurd ideas and proposals that would tank our economy, lead to world war, destroy our climate and environment, and piss off our allies. However, as I wrote the other day, Donald Trump’s success in politics wasn’t magic — far from it. Donald Trump’s success in politics was built on the back of decades worth of conspiracy theories and anti-science rhetoric and extremism from the Republican Party. (Come on, people, there’s a reason he won the GOP nomination.)
Just two weeks ago, the Boston-based Conservation Law Foundation filed a lawsuit against ExxonMobil for endangering Massachusetts communities along the historic Mystic River through its activities at the Everett petroleum storage terminal. This is the first nongovernmental lawsuit in the nation to take a petroleum company to task for its decades-long … [continued]
The woes just keep piling up for Chesapeake Energy. The company is front and center in the nation’s natural gas fracking boom and it just got hit with one of the largest ever civil penalties for violating Section 404 of the Clean Water Act. The penalty was levied against its … [continued]
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency seems to be making up for lost time when it comes to enforcing the Clean Water Act. That includes closing the door on mountaintop coal mining, also known rather delicately as mountaintop removal. In reality there is nothing delicate about it. The practice involves blowing … [continued]
