At the last Autonomy conference*, I had the opportunity to sit down in Paris with Simon Lonsdale, Chief Strategy Officer at ChargePoint, for a long chat about EV adoption, EV charging, EV convenience, and EV charging station design.
George Hotz (aka geohot) was one of the headliners at this year’s Autonomy conference in Paris. He didn’t disappoint, even though he apparently had to skip flying over (at the last minute) and do the presentation and Q&A via Skype.
Sitting at a Hyperloop Transportation Technologies presentation here at Autonomy, it was fun listening to Chairman Bibop G. Gresta talk about transportation problems and then how hyperloops can help solve them. He’s a funny guy, and he put the problems of current transportation methods into stark terms (using pictures and videos from the real world, of course).
EV charging infrastructure was largely limited to normal electricity outlets a decade ago. The market for electric car charging stations has grown tremendously as the market has, and it’s at a critical transition point again now as long-range affordable electric cars start arriving on the market. If you live in the USA, there are several large charging networks/companies, but there’s one company in particular that jumps out when you think of EV charging stations. Even if its name wasn’t in the title, I’m sure you’d be picturing the orange logo and station styling right now.
Autonomy starts in just a few days. I will be headed over there (to Paris) with my smart and funny cleantech pal Kuba Stechly. I will be moderating two panels at the conference, but it would have been somewhere at the top of my list of “conferences to squeeze out some time to attend” anyway due to the integrated, full-picture, and insightfully future-focused approach it brings to the world. It’s not just about electric cars, not just about cleantech, not just about alternative transport, and not just about city planning. It’s about bicycling, walking, city planning, robotaxis, electric cars, electric scooters, EV charging, mobility as a service, the internet of things, and much more. Bringing his own strong commitment to personal action to my inbox, Kuba suggested that we take a Tesla Shuttle to Paris instead of flying.
One of the coolest events in the world — Autonomy — is coming up in a couple of weeks in Paris (that’s in France, in case you haven’t heard of the city). I will be moderating two discussions there, but not the typical EV industry or solar industry stuff that I’m often tapped for.
