The future of autonomous aircraft vehicles, AV urban air mobility is taking shape and Airbus’ Altiscope A3 Blueprint roadmap wants to show how to safely integrate these various aircraft configurations into our electric air mobility future.
Electric flight is knocking at the door of every aerospace industry. But contrary to land-bound electric vehicles (EV), electric aircraft come in more shapes and forms. Electric air mobility is already getting off the ground, and much more is coming together right now as I write this.
A solar-powered airplane from Airbus has set the world record for longest sustained flight — just 3 minutes shy of 26 days. When fully developed, it is expect to remain airborne for months at a time.
Air mobility is the topic of the day at the Farnborough International Airshow. Rolls-Royce is there too, showing what it has in mind for an air taxi concept using today’s technology.
The future of electric aviation seems so far off and yet so very close that I think the only possible similarity would be to compare it to the electric vehicle (EV) rebirth of 2008. But just as back then, how many get the importance of electric aviation and its most urgent breakthroughs?
About three months ago, we reported that Airbus was moving ahead with its electric aircraft project called Vahana. The company announced more good news after the procedural test flight a few weeks ago.
True electric airplanes are far and few between, but last year saw an explosion of two- to four-seat electric airplanes (e-planes) taking off. And they are getting bigger and adding more range, thanks in part to two key airline industry players.
Three of the top aviation engine engineering firms in the world — Airbus, Siemens, and Rolls-Royce — are now collaborating on the development of a hybrid electric aircraft engine, the companies have jointly revealed. The new program — which has been dubbed E-Fan X — comes as competition in the sector to be the first to market with an electrified plane has begun intensifying. The new collaboration aims to fly a demonstrator aircraft in 2020 after ground tests have concluded.
The cool Airbus Vahana Project is ready for flight testing, right on the heels of Boeing, Uber, and others jumping into the electric plane game. Electric airplanes and other vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft taking off.
Aeronautics behemoth Airbus is joining forces with early-stage startups investor HAX to create a new four-month accelerator program aimed at developing the technology to address the various challenges of urban air mobility.
