The world’s largest grid storage battery built by Tesla and installed in South Australia has been tested twice this month. Both times it reacted so quickly the grid administrator couldn’t measure its response time accurately.
Just yesterday, I ran through a bunch of hypotheticals, delivery estimates, and financial assumptions for Tesla for the year 2022. One of those was the assumption that Tesla would have a pickup truck on the market by 2022 — and hitting 55,000 deliveries a year by 2022. Another assumption was that Tesla’s energy generation and storage revenue would approximately triple from 2017 to 2022.

For decades, electric cars have been a dream of the future. Magazines showed show cars and experiments, but fielded few or no production examples. During periods of high oil prices, their prospects rose, but as oil prices declined, they faded. Tinkerers and DIY mechanics made home-built lead-acid gas car conversions. There were tantalizing forays stimulated by California’s CARB ZEV (zero emission vehicle) mandates, like the GM EV1, Toyota RAV4 EV, and Honda EV Plus, but they were in limited numbers and more often offered for lease but not for sale.
Off the east coast of Puerto Rico, there are two island municipalities. One, Isla de Vieques, has an area of about 134 square miles and a population of 8,825. The other island is Isla Culebra, which has an area of 11 square miles and a population of just under 1,800. Both islands were hit badly by Hurricane Maria, and now both have been given substantial aid by Tesla.
Tesla turned on the world’s largest lithium-ion energy storage facility in the world earlier today in Hornsdale, Australia — with this announcement following closely on the news last week that construction work on the installation had been completed.

It shouldn’t surprise you that seeing a nice pic of the new Tesla Supercharger station in Kettleman City, California, triggered another article. This station is really a prime example that others should learn from, and it’s not just about one or two things — I counted 10.
Tesla emailed approximately an hour ago that it just opened North America’s largest Supercharger station … er, two of them.
What’s more interesting to me is that they represent a transition into a different charging dimension. Kyle Field and I have been talking about this for a couple of years — the future of public charging needs to include more amenities, more relaxation opportunities, more commercial attractions, and just overall more ::stuff:: (forgive the consumerist language and implications here).
