It appears Tesla has an advantage over its rivals, such as GM and Porsche, when it comes to the new battery technology that it is developing. Tesla has long been a leader on EV batteries, for years seeming to have a significantly lower cost (cost per kWh of capacity) for batteries than others.
Recently, we reported that Elon asked twitter if Giga Texas (a Tesla gigafactory in Texas) made sense. With Tesla’s aggressive global goals to expand auto production an order of magnitude within 5 years, I added to the discussion that Giga Mexico might be worth considering, since they need to start thinking about markets beyond the US, Europe, and Asia.

A Northern California man in PG&E’s electrical service territory had his electricity turned off by the utility for high wildfire risk for a full 42 hours yet was able to run his home on his Tesla Powerwall for the entire duration. The Powerwall installed in the remote home came out at the other end of the 42-hour outage with 9% charge remaining.
