The best place to spot the most promising cleantech innovations on the horizon is at the ClimateLaunchpad Global Grand Final* that takes place in the Netherlands, November 14–15, 2019. The 2-day event is the culmination of this global green business ideas competition and includes participants from around the world. They pitch their innovative and viable solutions to fix the climate crisis that cover lots of fields, from water, to agriculture, to transportation, to energy and efficiency.

Participating startups get rigorous training during boot camps and coaching in their own country. The winners of the national finals get to compete for the ultimate win during the Global Grand Final. Ever since the first competition in 2014, the event has created a stage and acts as a jumping board for innovators across the globe. Unique to ClimateLaunchpad is the global and growing participation — this year there are 53 countries participating.

Global action is required to fix the climate emergency, and all nations need to contribute and participate in the battle against greenhouse emissions. Community building and sharing of innovation is a strong theme for both ClimateLaunchpad and its funding partner EIT Climate-KIC.

In the shadow of peak oil, one of the most exciting things about this year’s competition are the growing numbers of participants joining from traditionally fossil fuel regions. This growing contingent demonstrates awesome grassroots business development in places where people potentially have more to lose as we shift away from fossil fuels. Some of the oil-producing regions that are in the competition this year include Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Nigeria, Brazil, and Canada.
