Array Technologies, the self-proclaimed leading solar tracking solutions and services company, announced Tuesday that it had shipped 6 gigawatts (GW) worth of solar trackers globally, only a fortnight after GTM Research reported that Array was leading shipments of solar trackers in the United States.

array-1GTM Research’s The Global PV Tracker Landscape 2016 report was published earlier this month, and forecast 12.6 GW worth of solar trackers will be installed this year, up from only 5 GW in 2015. By 2021, that figure is expected to continue to skyrocket, reaching 37.7 GW, accounting for nearly half of all ground-mount solar systems.

“Today’s boom in the tracker market is due, in large part, to the rapid build-out of projects in the United States,” explained Scott Moskowitz, GTM Research solar analyst and lead author of the report. “The economic case for tracking systems is fully proven, and over 70% of U.S. ground-mount projects are now being installed with trackers. We expect falling prices to drive further growth of the tracking installations around the world.”

The four leading vendors in the United States are NEXTracker, Array Technologies, First Solar, and SunPower, which together made up 72% of global shipments in 2015. Specifically, Array Technologies led the way in terms of the total number of MW shipped during the year. Further, not only did GTM find Array to be the US market leader in solar tracking, but it also has “the most extensive track record of any tracking vendor and is in the top tier of bankable tracking vendors.”

“With 27 years exclusively dedicated to solar tracking, Array Technologies has learned the best processes, business strategies and technology advancements to provide both a high-quality and low-cost product,” said Ron Corio, CEO of Array Technologies. “We look forward to growing our leadership beyond the U.S. to meet the needs of the global utility-scale solar market.”
