Why Is The Tesla Semi Still In Pilot Program Stage?

Tesla revealed its Semi (semi truck) nearly a decade ago. Many of us hoped for and expected a quick move to market and rapid scaling up. However, the process has gone much more slowly than I think anyone anticipated.

However, when I saw news that Mone Transport is now engaged in a pilot program with the Semi, it sort of just blew my mind. The vehicle has been in pilot programs for almost a decade now!

The good news is the results appear to be good. The company shared the following: “Mone Transport recently had the opportunity to put the Tesla Semi to the test, and we’re thrilled with the results! Over 4,700 miles of operations at 1.64 kWh/mile in our Texas operation. We’re committed to providing zero-emission transportation to our customers!”

But, really, after almost a decade, isn’t it time for large orders, not just more pilot programs?
