GM Makes EV Charging Easier

There’s a lot of pullback on EV progress in the United States following Republicans taking control of the country and doing what they can to slow down the transition to EVs. GM hasn’t exactly been a saint on that matter either, siding with the Trump administration on efforts to kill California’s fuel economy regulations and federal regulations. However, it’s the legacy company doing best on EV sales, and its Cadillac brand even reached 40% EV sales (versus 60% gas car sales) in the 3rd quarter of 2025. The Chevy Equinox EV is the 3rd best selling EV in the country, only trailing the Tesla Model Y and Tesla Model 3.

So, I don’t think anyone expects GM to stop trying to sell EVs or give up on leading the inevitable transition. Perhaps it will even try to use this weak regulatory climate to get a bigger advantage over the competition. One thing the automaker is doing in that regard is making it easier for its EV drivers to find and charge at public charging stations.

“GM is streamlining public charging because convenient access is at the heart of a great EV ownership experience. Now, you can find, charge, and pay at more than 5,000 Electrify America fast-charging stations, including Hyper-Fast 350-kW chargers, right from the myChevrolet, myGMC, or myCadillac app already on your phone,” the company wrote yesterday.

“With Electrify America built in, customers get a unified charging experience that eliminates the hassle of multiple apps and puts everything they need in one place. Owners can navigate to the Public Charging page in their myBrand app and look for supported networks, enabling fast and convenient charging while traveling throughout the U.S.”

Should this have been done 5 to 10 years ago? Yes. Is it great that GM is doing it now? Yes.

GM EV drivers can now access 250,000 public charging stations across the United States and Canada. This new integration now makes it an easier, more seamless process. As the company summarizes, GM EV drivers can now do the following through the myBrand apps:

  • Find charging stations nearby with real-time availability
  • Plan routes and identify charging stops along the way
  • Monitor charging session status
  • Pay for charging sessions directly in the app

“As EV travel continues to grow, so does the need for convenient charging experiences,” said Robert Barrosa, CEO and president of Electrify America. “Through this integration, GM EV drivers have more Hyper-Fast chargers to choose from and a seamless experience they can count on nationwide, helping them get to the places that matter.”

Progress continues. As our friend Down Under might say, the future is fun, bright, and electric.
