Rivian Sales Up 32% In 3rd Quarter, Revises 2025 Guidance Downward

I’d love to see Rivian do well, and its sales year over year were indeed up 31.8% in the 3rd quarter. However, that’s not really a huge jump compared to other auto brands*.

The company delivered 13,201 vehicles, and produced 10,720. While that’s apparently what Rivian was targeting, the bad news is that the company is now revising its full-year guidance downward. “Delivery results for the quarter are in line with Rivian’s outlook. Today the company is narrowing its 2025 delivery guidance range to 41,500 to 43,500 vehicles,” the company wrote. That’s down from the 40,000 to 46,000 forecast the company provided in July.

The Rivian R2 and Rivian R3 couldn’t come soon enough….

The good news is the 13,201 vehicles delivered beat Wall Street analysts’ estimate of 12,000 deliveries in the 3rd quarter, according to FactSet. That said, the market isn’t thrilled with the revised 2025 sales forecast. The stock (NASDAQ: RIVN) is down 13.11% from five days ago.

“Irvine, Calif.-based Rivian will announce third-quarter results on Nov. 4 after the market close. Analysts expect a loss of 73 cents a share, narrowing from 97 cents in the year-ago period. Sales are expected to climb 70.8% to $1.492 billion, per FactSet,” Investor’s Business Daily writes. “Analysts are mixed on the company’s outlook, with eight making buy recommendations, 16 with hold ratings, and three with sell or underweight ratings.”

As we’ve reported this week, Audi EV sales grew 232% in the 3rd quarter, Volkswagen EV sales grew 231% in the 3rd quarter, Cadillac EV sales grew 146%, Chevrolet EV sales grew 86%, GMC EV sales grew 84%, Honda EV sales grew 76%, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 grew 90%, and the Ford Mustang Mach-E grew 51%.
