Xpeng Preps for Profitability & New Models, and Raises Hiring Target from 6,000 to 8,000

Xpeng’s huge sales rise in the past several months seems to be leading to one good thing after another. First of all, as confirmed today via a call with CleanTechnica, Xpeng is aiming for profitability by the end of 2025. The company has already reached positive cash flow, and its gross profit margin was above 15% in the first quarter.

That will be a huge milestone for the company, assuming it comes true. The big concern with young companies of all stripes, but especially young automakers, is that they can never reach profitability and become a financially sustainable company. If Xpeng can become sustainably profitable by the end of this year, well, how much more can we expect from the company in the coming years?

Despite this march toward profitability, which requires both growing revenue and cutting costs, Xpeng actually plans to jack up its workforce this year. In an internal company meeting, CEO and cofounder He Xiaopeng recently said they were raising their hiring plans for 2025 from 6,000 to 8,000 new employees. As a result, the company expects to reach nearly 30,000 total employees this year.

In 2026, meanwhile, the company is planning mass production of the humanoid robots and flying car it’s been developing. Stay tuned for more on that….

Furthermore, the company is working on sequels to the popular Mona M03. On the same core platform, vehicles codenamed the D02 and D03 are under development. In other words, if you were thinking that the company is going to struggle to keep its rapid sales growth up, maybe think again — these should be truly high-volume models, further growing Xpeng’s reach, sales, and revenue. I think we can expect official details on these coming models toward the end of 2025 and in 2026. Stay tuned.
