The DOE’s SBIR and STTR programs have announced funding for FY25 Phase I Release 2 projects focused on geothermal heating, cooling, and enhanced geothermal systems.

On December 27, 2024, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs released the FY25 Phase I Release 2 Notice of Funding Opportunity. The opportunity includes funding for qualified small businesses to carry out projects in two topics: one on geothermal heating and cooling and a second on enhanced geothermal systems.

SBIR provides competitively selected grants for projects that have the potential for commercialization and meet specific DOE R&D needs. Research topics are selected through the DOE SBIR/STTR Programs Office working collaboratively with DOE’s program offices.

Letters of Intent are required and due January 14, 2025, and full applications are due February 26, 2025. Visit the Geothermal Technologies Office’s SBIR/STTR website for more information about SBIR/STTR funding for geothermal topics.
