Hyundai IONIQ 9 Interior Teased (Slightly)
They Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Hyundai IONIQ 6 are two of my favorite electric vehicles. The IONIQ 9 is a coming much larger EV from Hyundai for those who need more space, or at least feel like they need more space. The problem: we don’t really know what the IONIQ 9 looks like yet.
Hyundai has decided to tease us with a little sketch of the large SUV’s “lounge-like interior.” I’ll be frank: it doesn’t help me much to envision what’s expected. However, I’ll get to something after the sketch and some highlights from the press release that might help piece some things together. For now, though, here’s the sketch:
“IONIQ 9 to offer a lounge-like interior characterized by its spacious and flexible design, delivering a serene and sophisticated atmosphere for up to seven people,” Hyundai writes. “Hyundai Motor Company today shared initial details of the interior of its much-anticipated IONIQ 9, the brand’s first all-electric three-row SUV. This milestone addition to the IONIQ lineup underscores the company’s commitment to electric vehicle (EV) technology, cementing its electrification leadership.” I’m not sure how much it’s shared in the way of “details,” but it does show Hyundai’s commitment to EVs that it keeps rolling out attractive, appealing models in new classes.
“IONIQ 9 signifies Hyundai Motor’s entry into the large electric vehicle sector, building on the success of the award-winning IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6. With its spacious and comfortable interior, IONIQ 9 is set to revolutionize the EV experience.” Hmm, tasty. Going on:
“IONIQ 9’s ‘Aerosthetic’ silhouette gives way to an interior tailored to relaxation. Hyundai Motor’s advanced Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) provides a spacious cabin that features a flat floor across all three rows, enabling easy movement within the vehicle.
“Beyond its impressive level of spaciousness, IONIQ 9’s interior features soft, elliptical design elements, such as the door trim and door handle, that contribute to a serene and sophisticated atmosphere.
“As a large, three-row all-electric SUV, IONIQ 9 is capable of seating up to seven occupants comfortably. Its interior design delivers the versatility to accommodate different needs and situations, allowing each passenger to utilize the space flexibly.
“Coupled with the IONIQ lineup’s groundbreaking electrification capabilities, IONIQ 9’s spatial innovations are set to deliver an unparalleled and distinctive customer experience.”
Okay, those are apparently the interior details Hyundai is sharing.
This is where we can take a quick detour.
A concept electric Hyundai was presented a few years ago, in 2021, that seems to match much of what is talked about here. Here are pics of that concept vehicle:
Pretty slick, eh? That is one appealing vehicle! The lounge-like interior is out of this world, and would really set the vehicle apart as a unique SUV. Would it be for everyone? No, but then everyone can go get some other SUV with the same style interior as we’ve had for ages. I have no interest in large vehicles, but I have to admit that this concept vehicle is something I find very appealing and desirable.
Being a concept vehicle, this can’t be what the production IONIQ 9 is going to be. Concept vehicles are always much more futuristic and outlandish than the real vehicles end up being. Though … the text description above really does sound like the pictures of the concept vehicle below it.
As for the sketch, well, I still can’t tell what the heck is actually going on from the sketch.
