5 Reasons To Buy A Tesla Now, Before July 1st!

In this article, I’ll go over the 4 real reasons to buy a Tesla now. The fifth one is just that they are fun to drive and who wants to wait? In summary, those 4 reasons are:

  1. US EV Tax Credit will be cut in half on July 1st.
  2. Free unlimited Supercharging for Model S and Model X cars without the Raven update ends June 30th.
  3. Free Ludicrous upgrade for existing owners upgrading to a newly refreshed Model X and S could end at any time.
  4. Full Self Driving prices are going up.

Tax Credit Cut Coming

The US federal tax credit for those with tax liability of $3,750 (single people need income over $45,000, married people over $60,000, see your tax adviser to be sure) is cut in half  (to $1,875) on July 1st. Tesla says it isn’t cutting prices to make up for the smaller credit this time.

The company plans to send most of the July and August production overseas in any case to try to keep up with the large backlog of orders there, especially in the right-hand-drive markets that have been waiting over 3 years for the Model 3.

In addition, see this article for details on big state incentives. I knew California had great incentives, but many don’t know about the other states. In addition to these 8 states’ rebates, the following states offer smaller benefits, like reduced taxes, charging installation assistance, reduced electricity rates, or carpool access:

  • Arizona
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Hawaii
  • Idaho
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Louisiana
  • Minnesota
  • Nevada
  • New Jersey
  • North Carolina
  • Oregon
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island
  • Texas
  • Utah
  • Washington DC
  • Wisconsin

Two great resources to do more research on this are the Tesla Page on incentives and the Plug In America page for EV incentives.

Free Unlimited Supercharging

If you are more into free Supercharging & getting the lowest price than having the latest upgrade, maybe getting a great deal on an inventory Model S or X is for you. Take a look at Tesla’s inventory of cars here. Note that, at times, that link doesn’t seem to work and you need to contact the local Tesla Stores to find current inventory.

You can also now find some used Model 3’s in Tesla inventory, but seemingly not outside of California yet.

When Tesla announced the new Raven upgrade, I noticed the company offered an extra kicker for existing S and X owners. For the thousands of existing owners who love their S or X but just need a little push to upgrade, what a great way to thank them for their support and also encourage them to get a new model so that someone else can enjoy their trade-in. This is a great way to bring new people into the EV market. If they get more trade-ins, it lowers the bar for people to buy a Tesla.

Anyone who has been watching Tesla this year knows the company is changing pricing fairly frequently and often without warning. One thing I’ve learned is that, if there is an offer that speaks to your needs or wants, you should get it while it’s available. Several desirable cars like the Model 3 Mid Range and the Long Range Rear Wheel Drive have come and gone over time. Sometimes they come back later; sometimes they don’t. Tesla hasn’t announced that this offer is going away, but it doesn’t always announce upcoming price changes.

“Full Self Driving” Pricing Will Increase

It seems like every time Elon has spoken at an event in the last few months, he has emphasized that Tesla cars are an appreciating asset. What is he talking about? He means that as more full-self-driving features are released, the price for the Full Self Driving upgrade will be going up. Demand for the cars, new and used, will also increase as people clamor to get a car they can use to earn money when they aren’t using it.

With Enhanced Summon going out to select Early Access participants last week, will Tesla raise prices after this mind-blowing feature is released? I don’t know, but if you can afford the upgrade, I wouldn’t take the risk.

Conclusion

I gave you 5 reasons to buy a Tesla now, but we have written a lot more on our site about the reasons to buy a Tesla at all. Some of my favorite articles on this cover unmatched safety, an incredible path to full self driving, this article showing how affordable a Model 3 is, and a Paul Simon–inspired classic giving you 30 reasons your next car should be an EV!
