Production Interior Confirms That BYTON’s M-Byte Will Keep Its Massive Display

BYTON has moved its M-Byte electric SUV a few steps closer to production this week with the reveal of the M-Byte body-in-white along with a few teasers of the production interior.
The teasers of the new interior layout are the star of the show as they show off BYTON’s impressive tech and confirm that the sweeping 48 inch (!!!) “Shared Experience Display” will make it into the production build of the car. The unprecedented display spans nearly the entire width of the dash and in early prototypes, displayed a host of dynamic information. When driving, it can serve as almost a heads up display that puts speed and navigation information in front of the driver while minimizing distractions on the periphery.
“BYTON has a well-developed global design team in both Germany and China, with top designers and specialists from 17 countries working together,” said Benoît Jacob, Senior Vice President of Design at BYTON. “The diverse cultural atmosphere of the team allows designers to fully interact with one another and understand the lifestyles, habits, and needs of consumers from different countries. Together, BYTON designers are committed to create leading smart mobility for consumers around the world.”
In our demonstration ridealong in the M-Byte at the Los Angeles auto show, BYTON demonstrated how the screen could be used to display driving information while taking a video call as an example. The demo looked a bit more active than is likely practical for most drivers, but it served to highlight the varied functionality of the display. Our BYTON host explained how the profile of the driver would follow them into every BYTON vehicle they entered. Things like musical favorites, climate control settings, and the seat position would all be set automatically based on the driver’s BYTON profile which is stored in the cloud.
The company is initially targeting Level 3 autonomy in its vehicles, which puts the vehicle in full control of driving under certain circumstances. Think about this like being able to hand over driving tasks to the car while on the freeway on a long road trip. In those situations, the central display would make the ultimate workstation or movie screen. Why not have the car drive you to Las Vegas? Just kick your feet back and put a movie on. The flexible potential of the screen could unlock some really neat use cases, depending on where BYTON decides to go with its production software for the infotainment system.
Complementing the sweeping Shared Experience Display is a 7-inch steering wheel-mounted display that BYTON calls the Driver Table and an 8-inch Central Touchpad. The Driver Tablet is an interactive display that gives the driver the ability to quickly interact with the system without having to move her hands too far away from the steering wheel.
Stepping back from the individual shots, the new teasers confirm that BYTON’s futuristic, luxurious interior is on track to make it into the production vehicle. Its technology, luxury, and integration with our digital lives promise the world when it comes to making the vehicle a seamless extension of our devices. Delivering on that promise is another matter altogether, but for now, we’ll have to sate our thirst for technology with these interior shots.
The images of the production interior of the M-Byte were released in parallel to the opening of the company’s new Shanghai Design Studio. BYTON will leverage the new Shanghai studio to connect with its core customer base in China and ensure that its vehicles meet the discerning needs of its customers in the world’s largest automotive market.
In parallel, BYTON continues to make progress at its new factory in Nanjing, China. The company continues to install new equipment at the expansive factory where it has already built up the first body-in-white. This critical milestone is where the car has all of its body panels welded together for the first time. It is but one more step towards bringing the M-Byte to production for BYTON and another step closer to realizing the company’s vision for transforming personal mobility as we know it.
