Today, bike manufacturer Tern is putting a spotlight on its latest uber-functional creation, the Bring Your Bike. The BYB is an ultra-compact folding bike that transforms, as if by magic, into a compact unit that boasts one of the smallest folded footprints you can find. It’s so compact, they event designed its very own roll-on luggage that enables you to take it with you on an airplane.

The company called its new folding friend the Bring Your Bike because it was designed from the ground up not just to be a folding bike, but to fold into a compact package that can easily be transported. When folded naked, a pair of rack-integrated spinner wheels affixed to the rear fender allow it to be wheeled around with just one hand.

“The BYB is the culmination of four years of focused work by the team,” stated Josh Hon, Tern Team Captain. “We had to develop some radically new technology for this bike and the manufacturing tolerances are, in the words of our factory partner, ‘tighter than automotive’. But we’re excited because new folding bike paradigms only come along every few decades or so, and we think the BYB falls into that milestone category.”

The folding BYB impressively comes with 20″ tires that provide increased stability and stand in stark contrast to the diminutive 14- and 16-inch wheels most folding bikes come with. The compact BYB also features the Tern DoubleDeck frame that increases the stiffness and durability of the compact unit.

When it’s time to hit the road, the BYB was designed to travel and has several accessories to suit your needs. The BYB is so compact, the folks at Tern actually built a piece of luggage specifically for it. The Airporter Slim is a hardshell rolling suitcase that fully houses the folded up BYB. That makes it easy and safe to travel long distances with the BYB, after which it can simply be folded out and is ready to go within a few seconds.

Tern also offers the more casual and more affordable PopCover that provides a lighter layer of protection for storage and use on public transit. For riders looking for more functionality and capability from the BYB, Tern’s Pack Rack enables a host of rack bag and pannier options.

In short, the new Tern Bring Your Bike is an impressive new offering to the Tern bicycle lineup that makes it even easier to ride a bike around town when you need it and to stow it when you don’t. Its compact form factor and functional accessories also make it a great option for travelers looking for a bike that’s as ready to hit the road as they are.
