The UK’s newest wind farm owner-operator, Ventient Energy, has launched this week and jumped straight into third place, with 690 megawatts worth of capacity supplying 420,000 homes annually.

Ventient Energy was launched this week, the result of combining three wind farm portfolios together to form the UK’s third-largest wind farm owner and operator. The new company was formed by combining Zephyr Investments’ portfolio of 15 wind farms with 19 wind farms formerly owned by renewable energy company Infinis, which were then acquired by a group of institutional investors advised by J.P. Morgan Asset Management.

The resulting Ventient Energy was formed following the completion of restructuring which moved Zephyr Investments and associated wind farms under the Ventient Energy banner.

Ventient Energy now has 34 wind farms made up of 507 wind turbines with a cumulative capacity of 690 megawatts, generating electricity equivalent of the needs of 420,000 homes each year and offsetting 0.75 million tonnes of CO2-equivalent annually. With two-thirds of the wind farms located in Scotland, Ventient Energy now ranks as the third UK onshore wind owner-operator — all of which are, unsurprisingly, headquartered in Scotland.

“We are excited to introduce Ventient Energy, now a major player in onshore wind energy,” said Scott Mackenzie, CEO of Ventient Energy.

“We are the largest non-utility owner of onshore wind in Britain. We are ambitious – committed to creating prosperity through safe and sustainable generation of renewable sourced electricity, through quality job creation and supporting the communities in which we operate.“The UK onshore wind market is fragmented, and Ventient Energy owns only 6% of market capacity at present, so we see plenty of opportunities to grow our installed capacity through consolidation.”
