Soltec Secures 238 Megawatt Solar Tracker Order For Mexico

Spanish manufacturer of solar trackers Soltec has secured another major order in Latin America, strengthening its position in the rapidly growing market.

Soltec recently announced that it will supply solar trackers for a 238-megawatt solar power project in Mexico. The Don José project is being constructed by Enel Green Power Mexico and is located in San Luis de la Paz, in the country’s north-central state of Guanajuato.

Enel secured the rights to develop the project following an auction. The company will supply electricity from the project under a long-term agreement of 15 years and will sell clean certificates for a period of 20 years.

Don José will have an installed capacity of 238 MW and once completed will be able to produce 539 GWh per year, equivalent to the annual energy consumption needs of around 410,000 Mexican households, while avoiding the emission of over 245,000 tonnes of CO2  into the atmosphere.

The solar tracker order is the second by Enel to Soltec in the last few months. Earlier this year, Soltec announced that it started installing trackers at a 292-megawatt solar power project in Brazil. The project, also won through competitive auction, is being developed by Enel Green Power Brasil Participações.

Following the completion of Don José and the Brazilian 292 megawatt power project Soltec’s presence in Latin America would reach at least 688 megawatts.
