A recent press release reveals that the first-of-its-kind SolarPodTM has gotten UL certification. The SolarPodTM group of products is the first offer for US retail and commercial markets that provides no roof penetration, particularly helpful for sloped roofs (SolarPodTMCrown). The no-penetration SolarPod Crown cuts installation cost while at the same time achieving dependable reliability.

This new product is for gable roofs. With SolarPod Crown, you just install a panel assembly on the roof, and there you have it, energy from the sun. It does not affect your roof strength, and it has eliminated the need for penetration.

The press release continues, “It has been installed in multiple US States and is ideally suited for residential rooftops. The SolarPodTM products with integrating racking, solar panels, and inverters are now UL 2703 Listed (Photovoltaic Mounting System). ”

The listing obtained is for electrical bonding and Class A Fire Rating (required for roof-mounted systems). Multiple solar panels from around the world and US-made solar panels from SolarWorld were used for the certification.

“I started with a 1 kW SolarPodTM Crown system. I needed a new roof, and it was very easy to replace the roof with the no roof penetration system. With the 2-man roofing crew helping me, I was able to remove the solar system in only 20 minutes. I expanded the system to 2 kW after the roof was finished. A very quick and easy process to add some more unistruts. This is the best type of mounting system for a Girard stone-coated metal roof, as you cannot use roof penetrations with this roofing system.” — Bruce Euzent, Sunnyvale CA

From the MySolarPod page about the SolarPodTM Crown, you can see more on that flexibility:

“The versatility of SolarPodTM Crown enables installation in many roofing materials with minimal or no invasion on roof structures. SolarPodTM Crown has been installed in the following roof materials: Shingle, Wood Shake, Metal, Tile, and Corrugated Metal.”

The SolarPodTM Grid Tied integrated and modular solar system is the first “Plug & Play solar system that can be tilt adjusted (for any angle) to maximize solar potential,” the website adds. “The prefabricated system reduces on-site installation time, improves reliability due to its robust high gauge corrosion resistant steel construction and increases solar energy production.”

The UL 2703 listing is a comprehensive listing, and the SolarPodTM was tested to ANSI/UL 2703.

“We are very pleased about the UL 2703 listing certification given to our products. This Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory certification along with wind testing to 130 mph wind loads by CPP Wind and our internal testing, confirms our commitment to very high standards for performance, safety, quality and cost. This certification will go a long way in reducing the soft cost towards the SolarPodTM installations,” said Mouli Vaidyanathan founder and designer of the SolarPodTM products.

With simple assembly, the SolarPodTM Standalone works similar to other household appliances — it is not so different from simply plugging in your other appliances and having them do their magic.

SolarLove.orgwith an earlier story about the products, “Solar Power Technology Approved: Reduces Installation Costs 30-50%,” emphasized more benefits of the “Plug and Play” technology. “Reducing installation time is also an advantage if homeowners don’t want workers on their roofs or hanging around for extended periods of time.” And you get your solar system generating electricity and saving you money sooner, too.

SolarPod was also named a finalist at Intersolar Global, demonstrating it growing reputation within the solar industry.
