I’m not familiar with “Regular Car Reviews,” but one minute into the Tesla Model S P85 review video below, I became a fan. Clever, fun, and funny. And it turns out the reviews are comprehensive enough that they are useful, too.
To kick things off, this is the line that just about anyone who has driven a Tesla Model S knows all too well: “Everything I drive from now on will be based against this. Everything I drive from now on has to live up to this.” Oh, it won’t, buddy. It won’t.
Going on: “This is the new benchmark for me. Everything I drive is going to get compared to a Tesla now.” Let me give you a heads up: everything you drive is going to seem like it sucks now. I’ve driven nice cars from BMW and Mercedes since my Tesla P85D test drive, and they felt like kids’ toys. Granted, I haven’t driven any Lamborghinis or Ferraris, but the Tesla salesperson who took me on my test drive said they had people trade in Lamborghinis for the Model S there. Honestly, it’s the beginning of a new era.
Of course, to get the cost down below $100,000 on a car with better acceleration than million-dollar cars — well, better than just about every production car ever made — requires saving some cash somewhere. The Model S interior is not the equivalent of the interior of the Mercedes S-Class. It’s certainly not bad, but as the Regular Car Reviews reviewer notes, it’s not what you’d think of when you think of a $100,000 car. Naturally, owners understand the tradeoff, and they’re still the happiest car owners in the US (and I imagine elsewhere).
And the criticisms of the interior don’t go far. The reviewer does admire the attention to detail in design, which even extends to keeping the required airbag warning sticker on the sun visors out of your face.
Anyhow, this is one of the more entertaining and funny reviews I’ve seen of the Tesla Model S, so check it out if you haven’t yet.
The one-liner he chooses for the car comes from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off: “If you have the means, I highly suggest picking one up.”
