Red Model XCNN recently posted a summary of its favorite luxury SUVs, and the Tesla Model X unsurprisingly took top honors. It is fantastic to see the car win that ranks higher in safety, lower in emissions, lower in cost per mile to drive, highest in airborne pollution filtration (what’s up, HEPA filtration!), and the only production car ever with falcon-wing doors — though, I suppose that’s what happens when you build something completely new.

This article makes me smile and cry at the same time. Smile, because it’s freakin’ exciting to see what I view as the best SUV in the history of SUVs getting picked as the top choice on a major media outlet like CNN. I think it will be amazing and do great things for the auto industry, for the quality of our air, for the climate, and for Tesla (yes, I still believe that Tesla is a HUGE factor in driving EVs forward, and have no issue giving the company credit for it). It brings so many innovations to market — even bringing significant improvements over its partner in clean air crime, the Tesla Model S.

Model X Black 4It makes me cry because our favorite award organizer (to pick on) — the Green Car Journal — just announced the contenders for “Green SUV of the Year,” and they laughably do not include the Tesla Model X. Here’s a link to the press release for that if you want a laugh… but in all honesty, it still frustrates me to no end that the only SUV this year (2016 MY) that actually has a shot at making a difference isn’t on the list. The blatant omission is not surprising, actually, and it is exactly this type of error that prompted the creation of our very own CleanTechnica Car of the Year Award — which you should go vote for if you haven’t yet.
