Thanks to falling batter costs (and increasing battery energy density), the electric motorcycle provider Zero Motorcycles recently slashed the prices of all of its offerings by as much as $1,350.

The company’s (previously already affordable) FX ZF2.8 is now listed for just $8,495 — while the “top of the line” offering, the SR sports bike, is now going for just $15,995.

Electric motorcycles were already a very affordable option for those looking to go electric and give up gas-powered combustion engines for good — but, now, with battery costs continuing to fall, the possibilities just keep getting better and better.

There are of course health and climate limiters with regard to the use of motorcycles — they certainly aren’t for everybody — and motorcycles are of course no substitute for trucks, vans, etc, in many other regards as well. But, for those just looking for a fast, cheap, fun ride, I’ve got to say that these look very appealing.

Our sister site Gas2 provides some more detailed information:

Zero gets high marks for upgrading critical components of its motorcycles, especially new brakes with ABS, better hardware, and much-improved suspension components. This should all lead to an even more-engaging driving experience for electric motorcycle enthusiasts.

Attitudes about electric bikes are changing. While riders can still get more bang fo their buck with a gasoline powered bike, fans of electric motorcycles praise them for their abundant torque and quiet ride. It’s actually the perfect green commuter for anybody that lives in a temperate climate, and it’s much more affordable than even the cheapest electric cars. For getting around town emissions-free, electric motorcycles make a ton of sense…and they can get up and go pretty quick too.

To be honest, before sitting down to write this article, I had never even entertained the idea of purchasing an electric motorcycle, but I’ve got to say that these look really appealing….
