Model S P85D Vs. Snowmobile — Drag Race On Ice Lake In Norway

Ever wanted to see a Tesla P85D drag race on an ice lake (with no tire chains or studs)… in Norway? No? I admit, I never thought of it either. 🙂

But here we are, with a video of a P85D drag racing a snowmobile! Like a birthday gift that you never knew you’d wanted but ends up proving fascinating anyways.

The video was notable enough that Elon Musk himself apparently saw fit to plug it. It really is interesting to see though, so I can’t really blame him.

While the original article is in Norwegian, I did manage to pick out a few details worth mentioning (with the aid of a translation program):

The snowmobile used in the drag race is a “Lynx Boondocker” — with, apparently, “800 ccm and around 160 hp.”

The Tesla P85D of course can’t accelerate as quickly on ice as it can on asphalt (not enough traction), so that was moderated a fair amount by the driver.

And, humorously, despite losing, the snowmobile driver made a point of mentioning that, “On the snow I would have won quite easily.” Gotta save the pride I suppose — that is the modern way after all.

Those interested in seeing the full video can find it here.

It’s worth a watch, though I wonder how many people are going to make some rather unwise decisions after seeing this…. Perhaps there’ll be a spike in the number of insurance claims involving Teslas. 🙂
