Chinese Government Orders Utilities to Buy 5-15% Wind Power

China Continues Global Renewable Energy Dominance
Mulan Wind Farm, located approximately 170km north east of Harbin City in Heilongiang, China’s northenmost province.
The Chinese government is forcing the hand of utilities companies to support wind energy while also improving and expanding the electricity grid. China has announced that, by the end of the year, utilities have to buy between five and fifteen percent of their energy from wind farms. Percentages of wind power companies will be required to purchase vary depending on each power company’s location.

And as we well know, China has a lot of wind to harness.

Business Green reports that experts aren’t totally convinced this will launch wind power to the forefront of Chinese energy: “Analysts also warned utilities will remain disinclined to build transmission lines while China’s energy pricing policy makes producing electricity from solar panels and wind turbines unprofitable.”
