Navigant Research has released its Smart Thermostat Leaderboard, claiming ecobee as the leading smart thermostat vendor, beating out Nest Labs and Honeywell.

ecobee has been steadily rising on the Leaderboard over the past few years, as can be seen below:

1. ecobee 1. Honeywell 1. Honeywell
2. Nest 2. Nest 2. Nest
3. Honeywell 6. ecobee 5. ecobee

The new Leaderboard from Navigant Research examined the strategy and execution of 17 leading smart thermostat hardware, software, and service vendors — a market which has only served to increase in popularity and prominence over the past five years. The market seems to be in constant shift, with new players taking the stage and existing players shifting their positions. Numerous developments in and around the sector have resulted in a surge of activity and a corresponding changing landscape.

“More value is being realized from smart thermostats because they enable customers to save money on energy bills, help utilities meet regulatory requirements, and play a role in the connected home,” said Paige Leuschner, research analyst with Navigant Research. “Companies leading this market, like ecobee and Nest, have created products and services that set the standard for thermostats with the ability to improve energy efficiency and engage consumers.”
