This image and quote above popped onto my email yesterday. Many of you have probably seen it before. But it’s a brilliant one, so even if you have, I think it’s worth another read and share.

Thomas Edison was way ahead of his time, and was clearly a fan of the 100% renewable energy idea (a true possibility), and especially tapping into our insanely abundant supply of solar energy.

Share the image and quote if you like it (and the pages linked above that back it up).

I dunno if he said this or not, but in former times there was much more discussion and talk about the problem of fossil energy.
Before the world of economics & politics got poisend by a short sighted mindsets and limited understanding of problems, responsibility & solutions there actually was an awareness of the existencial problem of baseing our entire civilization on energy sources that will run out eventually.

That was also the reason why nuclear energy became the sort of religion it was/is since the 1970s. If you go back and look how it was subsidized and pushed by governments, it primarily happend because it promised a solution to the many problems of fossil energy sources… even before climate change was on the radar.

As we know today, nuclear power failed misserable in fulfilling most of it’s promises and even created huge new burdens for society.

      Good comment.

I grew up not far from Oak Ridge Labs and toured there as a kid back in the 1950s. At the time there was a display of the cars of the future that would run on electricity. It was pointed out that oil wouldn’t last forever and that electricity would be a cheaper way to drive around even before oil became scarce.

That was back when nuclear was going to give us electricity “too cheap to meter”.

Since then we’ve learned that claim isn’t true. But, thankfully, we’ve learned that wind and solar will give us electricity “cheap enough to make us smile”….

Thanks. I was a tincy bit nervous it was a misquote. But was trusting MoveOn.org’s fact checking.
