iCar Launches $14,000 Small Electric SUV

China is a different world when it comes to electric cars, as we all know, but it’s still hard to not be somewhat shocked by some of the announcements that come out of there. In this case, iCar, a relatively new sub-brand of Chery, has launched its second vehicle, and it’s a small little electric SUV of sorts, or Jeep. It looks like a cheap, toy-ish version of the Land Rover Defender.
The iCar V23 is, of course, targeting young people. Want a hot new EV but not a millionaire or billionaire yet? Here’s an option that offers style, tech, and a smooth driving experience. The starting price, depending on trim, is RMB 99,800 ($13,700), RMB 109,800 ($15,070), and RMB 139,800 ($19,190).
The two cheaper single-motor versions of the V23 offer 100 kW of power and a maximum torque of 180 Nm, dishing out a 0–50 km/h time of 4.8 seconds. Stay safe in that mini SUV.
If you plop down the big bucks for the dual-motor version, you get a combined power output of 155 kW and 292 Nm of maximum torque, providing 0–50 km/h in 3.5 seconds.
You can get three different sizes of battery with the iCar V23: a 47 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery, a 60 kWh LFP battery, or an 82 kWh lithium ternary battery. Those batteries offer 301, 401, and 501 kilometers of range on a full charge, respectively.
Among other things on the tech side, the car includes Apple CarPlay and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip. It even has some “Navigate on Autopilot” features, and voice control.
