Demand for the Tesla Model 3 in Australia is still going strong, according to an article just published by The Driven. According to an informal survey of soon-to-be-Model 3 owners, many of the long-anticipated deliveries in Australia haven’t taken place yet, and this reflects on how strong demand is for the Model 3 in Australia.
The Driven learned last month that the first three ships to arrive in Australia with Model 3s carried just over 2,400 units, and five more ships have arrived since, showing that there is a lot that still needs to be processed through the docks and the vehicle registration system.
The Driven pointed out that registration numbers show that up to 70–200 Model 3s are being delivered per day at each of Tesla’s delivery centers — and “as many as” 1,500 have already been delivered. This could push the Model 3 onto the top 10 list for new vehicle sales for the quarter, which would be a first for an electric vehicle in Australia. (Note that this follows a trend already solidly set in the USA, where the Model 3 was the #6 best selling car in the 3rd quarter; the Netherlands, where it is the #1 best selling vehicle in 2019; Norway, where it is also the #1 best selling vehicle in 2019; Switzerland, where it has been the #1 best selling vehicle in the country at times and was the 4th best selling vehicle in the country in the first half of 2019; and elsewhere.)
The Driven also worked with the Australian Tesla Owners group to show just how strong the demand in Australia is for the Model 3. According to their findings, 7 out of 10 orders have yet to be fulfilled — meaning that most early buyers are still waiting on their cars to come home to them. Further, 4 in 10 orders are for the more affordable Standard Range Plus (SR+) trim, not yet delivered Australia, which shows that there are still plenty of people who prefer the higher priced Long Range and Performance trims.
The Driven’s analysis shows that it’s just the beginning of a Tesla delivery wave in Australia. As more and more people buy the Model 3, soon we will also have feedback from owners in Australia. They will record videos, create accounts, and come on board as members of the thriving Tesla community, and their friends, relatives, and neighbors will acquire interest in the cars. One of the things I look forward to is seeing the points of view from many soon to be owners in Australia.

Tesla has changed the lives of many of its customers, who then go on to create blogs and vlogs just to talk about their new cars and how their lives have changed. This process in Australia will again increase demand not just for the Model 3, but for other Tesla vehicles as well, including the Model Y and the mysterious Cybertruck that will be unveiled next month. The Cybertruck, Model Y, and Tesla Semi all loom on the horizon, and I predict that demand in Australia and around the world will be just as high for them as for the Model 3.
