e.GO Life Delays Lead To Small Series For Pre-Orders

e.GO Mobile, a German EV startup, has announced further delays for the first models of the e.GO Life. The company toldelectrive: “Since our suppliers will not approve the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) for road use until autumn 2019 and we did not want to keep our pre-orderers waiting any longer, we first had to be content with a small series approval for which no ESP is required.”

A small series of e.GO Life First Editions has gone into production, but the first freely configurable models won’t go on sale until this fall. Until then, only 1,000 e.GO Life vehicles can be produced, and they will be throttled (53 kW) and equipped without recuperation. The company said in a press release that it plans to supply all of e.GO Mobile’s pre-orders by the beginning of next year — there are already more than 3,300 pre-orders of the e.GO Life 20, 40, and 60.

CleanTechnicareported on the Geneva Motor Show and found the e.GO Life to be “the most original, surprising new entry into the electric car space” in terms of both concept and production. It has a clever design, with solid craftsmanship and thoughtful considerations for comfort and adjustability of the space. The e.GO Life 20 has a base price of €15,900 and a range of 100 km, with prices and performance increasing for the E.GO Life 40 and 60 models. The e.GO Life First Edition in comparison has a WLTP range of 89 km and costs €24,650 plus delivery and before government subsidies. The E.GO Life 20, 40, and 60 will go on sale this autumn — barring any further delays.
